Lakes District Health Board provides healthcare for a population of 120,000 people through our hospitals located at the centre of the North Island of New Zealand, at two stunning settings next to Lake Rotorua and Lake Taupo. Rotorua, Taupo and Turangi are internationally acclaimed for trout fishing and Ruapehu for snow skiing. The district is also well known for its other outdoor recreational options including tramping, cycling, mountain biking as well as lake and river water sports such as boating and kayaking. Rotorua is less than one hours drive from the Bay of Plenty coast that offers lots of sun, good surf, boating, fishing and deep sea diving. Rotorua is the tourist centre of the North Island of New Zealand.
Our client is currently expanding its services and are looking for a dynamic and energetic Emergency Medicine Specialist.
You will be expected to provide leadership and training for both the Rotorua and Taupo Emergency Department teams and will be based in Rotorua with support and oversight provided to Taupo. We see a variety of interesting medical and trauma presentations.
Applicants must have completed their specialist training and be eligible to obtain probationary vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
The above position comes with an attractive remuneration package and CME allowance for successful permanent appointments. Relocation assistance will be provided.
Please apply for a job descriptionAbout Lakes District Health Board:The Lakes District Health Board was established in 2001 and is responsible for providing and funding healthcare services for the 120,000 people who live in the Lakes region.
The Lakes DHB hospitals at Rotorua and Taupo are an example of one of the groups the DHB funds. The others include private providers, Maori providers, mental health service providers and non-government organisations. The Lakes DHB is responsible for ongoing health and disability needs assessment of its population, and for planning health service delivery.
Approximately one third of the Lakes population lives in the Taupo region and two thirds live in the Rotorua region. A total of 32 per cent of the Lakes population is Maori, and the Lakes region has a small (approximately 3,600 as at 2004) but growing Pacific population.
Rotorua and Taupo Hospitals provide a range of services to the people of the Lakes district.
The population of the Lakes DHB area includes Rotorua and district, Reporoa, Taupo, Turangi, Kaingaroa Village and Mangakino. Rotorua and Taupo Hospitals provide inpatient, outpatient and daypatient services.
The hospitals also provide a range of community services - in homes, at centres away from the hospital and in other community settings.
About RotoruaRotorua city is renowned for its geothermal activity. It is located just under three hours drive south of Auckland, which has all the facilities of a city of a million people.
Rotorua has several lakes within a 20 minute drive from the centre of the city. It is also centrally situated to beaches on both coasts of New Zealand – being a 45 minute drive from some of the countries most popular east coast beaches and approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours drive from some west coast beaches. Some of New Zealand’s best ski fields are only 2 hours drive away and other recreational facilities in towns such as Hamilton and Tauranga, are also close to Rotorua.
Rotorua provides scenic walks, beautiful forests, mountain biking, golfing opportunities, some of the best fishing in NZ and many other various activities surrounding the lakes and the geothermal activity.
Rotorua has a great cafe scene with other fine restaurants and drinking establishments. There is a full array of international foods and dishes at the various restaurants as well as local and New Zealand cuisine.
About Lake Taupo DistrictLake Taupo District is a vibrant growing region with a diverse range of resources including forestry, agriculture, hydroelectric and geothermal energy, tourism, scenic and recreational attractions. Taupo, Turangi and Mangakino are the three main urban areas in the district.
There are also many lakeside settlements around the shores of Lake Taupo. In addition to stunning scenery the district has well developed accommodation, transport, recreation and]attraction activities.
As well as gaining international recognition as a trout fishing destination the region is developing a reputation as a top event destination with an all year programme of sporting events and festivals. The Lake Taupo region is of central location and close proximity to Tongariro National Park and the Whakapapa ski area. With an outstanding clean, green environment the Lake Taupo region is one of the country's largest visitor destinations, attracting 1,093,782 guest nights for the year ended December 2004.
